No. Jones Law accepts cases on a contingency fee basis. We will not ask you for any contribution towards costs or bill you for any hourly work. We don't get paid until we get you a recovery. Any litigation costs that Jones Law advances are reimbursed from the recovery. If there is no recovery in your case, you do not owe Jones Law anything--no matter how much was spent.
Your telephone call will be answered by either Lawyer Trey Jones or his trusted paralegal, Kelly Webb. Jones Law does not utilize a call center or other outsourced intake department. If we cannot take your call, it is because we are on another line but will call you back right away.
We want to immediately form a personal connection with you, even if we cannot take on your case in the end. Speaking with you directly allows us to efficiently gather the information necessary to evaluate your claim. We never want to waste your time.
Be careful! There are deadlines for filing civil lawsuits that range from one year to three years. Once the deadline has lapsed on a claim, it is time barred forever. If in doubt, speak to a lawyer to determine exactly how much time you have to file your claim.
You should be comfortable with the lawyer that you hire, whether that is Jones Law or not. The reality of civil litigation is that you will be interacting with your lawyer for a long time. It could be a few months--or it could be a few years. Pick a lawyer who you believe will fight hard for your case AND will have the time and attention to dedicate to your case.
At Jones Law, we emphasize the need to keep our clients informed and up-to-date on their cases. Whether the preferred contact is telephone, text or e-mail, we routinely let you know what is happening in your case.
Lawyer Trey Jones worked as an insurance defense attorney for the first several years of his legal career. That experience allowed him to observe how insurance companies and adjusters view and analyze claims. It also allowed Trey to learn creative pathways to resolution that are not always obvious in a given case. In his practice at Jones Law, Trey continues to utilize that experience and expertise to work to obtain fair and efficient resolutions for his clients.
Jones Law is not a mega-firm. We do not advertise on billboards or television for our cases. Much of our work comes from other lawyers who trust Trey Jones, because of his experience, to evaluate and work-up their complex cases. As a result, we intentionally keep our caseload at a low and manageable level. We prioritize attention to individual cases over number of active cases.
Trey Jones is the attorney of record in all Jones Law cases. Trey will not only be the one working behind the scenes on your case from start to finish-- but Trey will be the one who remains in contact with you for the duration of the litigation. Trey always encourages his clients to call, text or e-mail him directly with any questions.
This is the most difficult question to answer because no two potential cases are exactly alike. In order to make a determination of whether a client has a viable case, substantial information is needed so that the case can be properly evaluated. This is not because lawyers are nosey, but because most complex cases require the involvement of expert witnesses before the case can be filed with the court.
Jones Law does NOT take every case that comes through the door. The reality of complex civil litigation is that there are many actionable cases that are unlikely to return a recovery sufficient to offset the significant costs associated with litigation in South Carolina. Our goal is to carefully vet each potential case and advise the potential client on the likelihood of success.
As a general rule, civil cases are not eligible to appear on an active jury roster for at least 12 months after they are filed with the court. This is to allow the lawyers (on both sides) to conduct the necessary discovery that will ensure the case is fully prepared for a jury trial. Lawyers are at the mercy of the court, as cases are basically called for trial in the order that they were filed. We are still seeing delays from the backlog of all of the cases that could not proceed to jury trials in 2020-2021, so a "best case scenario" for an expected trial date is usually 18-24 months after the case is filed.
The length of time that it takes to get a matter in front of a jury is a big factor in cases resolving via settlement. Jones Law works hard on exploring settlement options consistently during the litigation so that IF the case could resolve fairly without waiting 18-24 months, the client will have the opportunity to give that settlement opportunity due consideration.
